Last night at @hindsgavl_festival, I had the joy of hearing @martinhelmchen perform Brahms’ monumental Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34—together with @antjeweithaas and @stephenwaarts (violins), @sao.lariviere_violist (viola), and @marieelisabethhecker (cello). A storm of lyricism, depth, and virtuosity. Music that lingers.

“No Space for Bezos!” cry the protesters—but not a word about Lady Gaga or Elton John performing at his wedding. Is it hypocrisy or just selective outrage? Jo Ellison’s piece is a reminder that when it comes to billionaire pageantry, everyone plays their part. #BezosWedding #CulturalContradictions https://www.ft.com/content/1ea7433a-f821-4a79-997c-2b1f69ffafe3

Yesterday 40 years ago: The only Denmark side ever to defeat the mighty and mysterious USSR, the fans present at the Copenhagen ground that afternoon in 1985, or just anyone who watched the game live on TV. https://theblizzard.co.uk/denmark-4-ussr-2/

I have always believed that openness and transparency was probably the most important way to ensure both well-functioning markets and political governance. Much of the information to enable our participation in a democracy, where we can make informed choices and where everyone, great and small alike, can be held accountable for their actions and utterances, must be dug up "from below" by citizens who are not part of the institutions that their "digging" is supposed to shed light on. That's why it's good to see that the important #opensourceintelligence initiative is getting the attention that a full page post in Financial Times Weekend bringes!

I am by no means an expert in the #efficientmarkethyothesis so my belief in its correctness is best supported by logic and common sense as expressed by its progenitor #eugenefama: “If prices are obviously wrong then you would be rich” 🤓 Economist Eugene Fama: ‘Efficient markets is a hypothesis. It’s not reality’ https://on.ft.com/3MrBBkD

I've always had a hard time accepting so-called "political art". I understand that art not takes place in a vacuum, just like there is no "one truth" in science, but in the end, the activist artist is just an ideologue like everyone else, and political art is propaganda and closer to PR and advertising than to art. This article by @PhilKlay describes this dilemma quite well. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/05/magazine/activism-propaganda-artists-writers.html
